Winter Family Escape

Winter Fun on the ice

Where to Stay:  Yes! We know that when traveling with children a pool is a must-have amenity and Okoboji has many options. Bridges Bay Resort is a great choice for families of all sizes. It boasts an indoor water park, condo and hotel style rooms, and a full service restaurant. Other family friendly properties with pools include: AmericInn; Arrowwood; Village West ; Ramada; and the Roadway Inn Inn. Check out all Okoboji Lodging Properties.

What to do: If your family falls on the creative side head to Kurio Kastle  to choose and paint a pottery creation or catch a paint-a-canvas class at Creative Spirits. Also be sure to swing by the Pearson Lakes Art Center  to explore The Art Smart Gallery, take an art class, or just enjoy the art on display. There is no cost to enjoy the Pearson Lakes Art Center.

If winter adventure is what your family is in search of there are many options. Pay a visit to Okoboji Boat Works  to ice fish or ice skate on West Lake Okoboji. Then head to the Nature Center for a snowshoe hike (free snowshoes available on weekdays). If you would rather be indoors head over to Boji Bay Ice Arena for public skating for a minimal fee on Friday and Saturday nights. If the snowfall amount has been just right go south of Milford to Horseshoe Bend for some snow tubing with a tow rope to bring you back to the top and a warming house with a fire, s’mores and hot chocolate.

Still looking for things to do? Check out Corner Lanes for Cosmic Bowling on Friday nights after 8:00. There are two great places to see movies: Great Lakes Cinema 7 or Milford Pioneer Theater .  The newly renovated Milford Pioneer Theater has 2 screens and all new leather, reclining chair seating.  For a unique night out, Riddle Me That, Okoboji’s newest attraction gives you 1 hour to escape from a locked room by solving riddles and puzzles while unlocking clues to find the key that let’s you out of the room. .

Where to eat:  When hunger strikes there is something for everyone. Pizza Ranch and Godfather’s all-you-can-eat buffet are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters.  If you are looking for a great neighborhood bar and grill with food to please even your pickiest eater, check out Tweeter’s in Okoboji (they serve a free ice cream sundae with every kid’s meal!), Remington’s in Spirit Lake, or The Hutt in Arnolds Park.   Water’s Edge Grille at Bridges Bay offers everything from steak and seafood fine dinning to a large variety of flat bread pizzas. If Mexican is what you are craving, check out Los Pueblos, La Barca or Los Lagos.  For a mid-day pick me up Goodies has sweet treats that are sure please. See all dining for more options.

It’s ok to take 2 trips to Okoboji this winter – one with the kids and one without!  Check out some ideas for what to do if you’re not entertaining the little ones.
