Spring Run Grasslands and Waterfowl Production Area
Path Less Traveled Location 1
Wetland complexes of this size and diversity give us an idea of how the prairie pothole region may have looked and functioned when Euro-American settlers first came to Northwest Iowa. This site is one of the largest Waterfowl Production Areas in the state. This vast complex has lake, marsh and upland areas that are home to a wide diversity of species. A plus for being a designated bird conservation area is being able to spot a plethora of nesting areas. Simply drive carefully along on the roads winding through the area. An added plus are the sets of shooting ranges on the site which are maintained by the Dickinson County Conservation Board. The ranges are open to the general public.
Here is information from the Iowa DNR to guide you along on your adventures.
