Join us for this annual event on East Lake Okoboji! Vintage snowmobiles from around the midwest gather to race down a four lane 500ft track on East Lake Okoboji in front of the The Ritz in Arnolds Park. Racing is open and free to the general public to watch.
Co-Director Chris Duncan says, they’re busy working on the track this week. “It takes quite a bit to build the track and everything after the big weekend we just had. We try to get the track shaved down to just good, clear hard ice and the track’s 1500 foot long and 125 foot wide with 4 lanes, then a test lane and a return lane. That’ll be on Friday when we set the actual track lights and all that other stuff up. Then, we have vintage sleds. We have like 5 or 6 different classes from 1970 whenever all the way up to 2002.”
He adds that there’s no charge to watch the races on Saturday.
“We’re not here to make any money, our group. We’re here to enjoy what we like with the vintage snowmobiles. The greatest part about it for spectators, it’s free of charge. The track is on East Lake, right out in front of The Ritz. There’s access from there, there’s access from the boat ramp across the street from Kum & Go. The snow is hard packed, the ice is well over 20 inches thick. You’ll see some nice, really cool old vintage and antique race snowmobiles along with some of the newer stuff, up to 2002. Some of the sleds will reach in excess of 105 to 110 mph in 500 foot.”
Saturday’s races are scheduled to start at 11 am.
