Okoboji Performing Arts is excited to present To Keep Truth Marching On! Songs and Stories of Heroism From The Women’s Suffrage Movement on Friday, May 12 at 7:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa!
This interactive program brings the American Women’s Suffrage Movement to life through music! Historical songs, costumes, images, and an engaging spoken narrative come together to celebrate the American women—and men—whose bravery, determination, and teamwork resulted in the right to vote American women have today.
Classically trained opera singer Audrey Johnson is coming to Okoboji as an Artist-In-Residence to present this program to the community in performances, one of which will feature a group of Okoboji 5th grade students. Not only will these students co-lead the audience in participation of many songs throughout the program, but they will also compose and perform their own song about civic engagement as young American citizens today.
These programs are presented by Of Thee I Sing: American Heritage Through Song, an educational performance platform dedicated to bringing American heritage to life through music and inspiring positive, engaged, and inclusive citizenship today through the music of our nation from throughout its history. Of Thee I Sing programs have been hosted and sponsored by educational, arts, civic, and youth organizations throughout the country, including the Girl Scouts, the Boys and Girls Club, and The National Endowment for the Arts.
Don’t miss this in-depth, award-winning look at our history through music on Friday, May 12 at 7:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Milford, as well as the students’ performance, which is open to the community, on Saturday, May 13 at the Okoboji High School auditorium. Both performances are open to the public and a free will donation will be collected to support Okoboji Performing Arts’ future programming.
