September 18 & 25: Clay Paint Palettes | * Two week course: $24 members | $32
Students will learn to use the slab roller to create their very own paint palette! Design your palette in a oval, rectangle, circle or other shape, carve the wells for paint with loop tools and finish by decorating with underglaze paint. Pieces will be left to dry, bisque fired, and finished with a clear glaze firing. Pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 2.5 weeks after the class.

October 2, 9, 16: Illustrated Animal Burrows
Explore the secret underground homes of hibernating animals! From cozy bear dens to chipmunk tunnels, children will use their artwork to tell an animated story of an animal character in their burrow. Using a cutaway view students will illustrate the inside of an animal burrow, complete with chambers, tunnels, and winter details. They’ll bring their burrows to life using gouache paint for bold, colorful backgrounds and watercolor pencils for fine textures and details—all on sturdy, thick paper perfect for painting.

November 6, 13, 20: Leaf Pile Self Portrait
Celebrate fall with art and imagination! In this playful mixed media class, students will create a unique self-portrait surrounded by a colorful pile of autumn leaves. On the first day, each child will have their photo taken and printed in black and white. Then, they’ll build up layers of painted leaves using a crayon resist technique with watercolor, giving texture and vibrancy to their leaf piles. Finally, complete the work with trees, wind, or even pumpkins! Register by: October 29th | Maximum: 20 students | Location: Youth Studio
December 4, 11, 18: Ornament Painting on Canvas
Get festive with paint! Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will create a vibrant acrylic painting of a holiday ornament on canvas. Young artists will learn beginner painting techniques to make their ornament appear 3D by adding shadows and highlights. They’ll also add a glowing effect and a blurred green pine branch background to complete their masterpiece.
